As a specialist in legal contracts, you are responsible for creating, managing and monitoring contractual agreements. You are responsible for reviewing proposals and agreements to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws. They also negotiate terms as part of the agreements. Other responsibilities include helping team members and clients understand the terms of the contract. They maintain a database of company contracts and ensure that they all comply with company policies. After graduating from university, you must complete another three years of qualifying employment. This means that you will perform legal work under the supervision of a lawyer, senior licensed legal executive, attorney or licensed developer. You can do this in a law firm, a legal department of a private company or in a ministry. An apprenticeship in a law firm is a good entry into the industry. You could pursue higher education to become a legal executive. This usually happens after completing an apprenticeship as a paralegal. You can pursue a Bachelor of Laws or a graduate degree such as a Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) and specialize in construction-related legal issues.
If you already have experience at a law firm, you may be able to apply directly to a large construction company for a position in their legal department. They can then gain experience and continuing education in order to specialize in building law issues. You can then start as an assistant to a more experienced legal advisor and progress as your skills improve. As a legal advisor, you are responsible for a company`s legal responsibilities. Tasks may include preparing contracts and documents, as well as providing a variety of legal support services. As a legal advisor, you can become a contract manager or compliance officer. The Legal Counsel/Legal Contracts Manager is primarily responsible for overseeing the processes, policies and contractual systems of the legal department. The lawyer/manager works with the legal team, the risk management team and all the commercial teams to manage contracts from start to finish. You can qualify as a legal advisor by completing a Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law and Practice or a Level 6 Advanced Professional Diploma in Law and Practice. To qualify as a legal contract specialist, you will need a bachelor`s degree or experience in the field of contracts and law.
Paralegal training is ideal for this position. You should have a thorough and complete understanding of contract law and strive to keep this knowledge up to date. You must be proficient in both the language of the contract and the law. Excellent written communication skills are essential to building trusting working relationships with clients and team members. If you have a suitable university degree, you can apply for advanced training from a law firm to gain experience as a legal advisor or specialize in construction.
