The ideal candidate has about 5 to 7 years of experience in the company, ideally including a heavy financial component. Must be self-reliant, detail-oriented and able to work as a member of a busy team. Strong university degrees and prior training required in reputable law firms or corporate law departments. The Office of the Deputy General Counsel for Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property is responsible for providing legal advice to elements of the Department on all matters relating to intellectual property (including patents, trademarks, copyrights and technical data) and for transferring these rights from the Ministry`s laboratories to the private sector in accordance with established legal authorities. The Office is also responsible for investigating and resolving copyright and patent infringement lawsuits against the Ministry. More information on intellectual property is available here. Its tasks include ensuring that the Office obtains, manages and licenses government-owned intellectual property (inventions) derived from research and development funded by the Department. Inventions made in most DOE laboratories belong to the contractor operating the laboratory and are licensed by the contractor directly to the private sector. The transfer of this technology to the private sector takes place through a variety of legal instruments, ranging from technical assistance agreements to solve a specific problem to user agreements, patent and software licenses, staff exchange, labour agreements for others and agreements on research and development in cooperation with research.
